What exactly is a ‘mini session’?
Mini session are short and sweet with a duration of just 20 minutes rather than a full length session which can take anything between 1 and 2 hours (sometimes longer).
With full length sessions we have an opportunity to get creative, plan outfit changes and looks. We have the flexibility to have time out and play and get a wide variety of shots. Due to time restrictions mini sessions have to be kept simple. One location, one outfit but still lots of fun!
Mini sessions are the perfect opportunity to refresh your family photos in between scheduling a full length session as they session will result in 8 to 10 images for you to select from compared to around 20 will a full length session.
Things to consider before booking a mini bluebell session:
Dates - The bluebells usually are at their best at the end of April each year. This however can change (either a couple of weeks before or after depending on the weather). Once in bloom they only last for about 2 weeks before they fade. For this reason it might be necessary to change the dates depending on the flowers. Please make sure that you have some flexibility for either the week before or afterwards if they are late or early.
Babies - due to the nature of the environment and time restrictions the mini bluebell sessions are not suitable for children under 1 years of age.
Big Families - from experience it is very hard to be able to effectively manage and photograph large families in such a short space of time. It is for this reason that I restrict these sessions to no more than 3 siblings although if you’d like to include a family shot as part of the mini session then this can be accommodated - just let me know in advance. If you do have a big family and would like a variety of individual, sibling and family shots then a full length session will probably be much more suitable.
Location Access - please be aware that this really is a woodland in every sense of the term. The ground can be wet and muddy and the flowers slippy. Accessing the flowers is just a short walk from the car park but you will have to walk down an uneven slope and there are no uniform paths. It is for this reason that I advise that everyone who attends is able and happy to visit such a location. If you have mobility concerns then it is still possible to have a photo shoot in the bluebells but I would advise that a full length session would be more applicable.
Time and Temperament - The forest is beautiful but can be cold and wet. As we only have half an hour together it is always best to consider how you think your child will react in such a situation. Some children really need some time to get into the flow of a photo session; others will jump right in. Although I will obviously do my very best to make the child/ren feel at ease (it’s what I do!), we only have a 20 minute window to play with. If you think your child/ren might need a little more time to be themselves then you might want to consider a full length session.
The Weather - Being in a wet bluebell wood isn’t fun. I did it last year and NEVER again! If there is light rain or drizzle then this is fine as the canopy of trees does protect you. If it’s torrential then I will have to look at rescheduling the date. For this reason I allocate the following weekend as a rain date. Please ensure you are available for both dates before booking.
