Sweet Slumber - Cardiff Newborn Photography

Beautiful new skin, rosy cheeks and perfect pouty lips. The newest addition to this fantastic family ticked all of the boxes. I’d met the family previously when I photographed their third child about 3 years ago but I’d forgotten how wonderfully welcome they were.

I’ll be honest, this was not an easy shoot and it took two attempts. On my first visit baby had a very bad tummy which resulted in her not setting and being more than a little uncomfortable. Try as hard as I might (for a couple of hours we couldn’t encourage her to settle. Do you know? These things happen. Working with babies and children is unpredictable at the best of times and I wanted the images to be perfect. I arranged to re-visit them the following week.

Tummy trouble passed and I was left with the most sleepy co-operative baby I could have ever wished for. These images were captured in my customer’s home using available natural light and as usual I tend to favour a more organic feel to my baby images. The baby is the star of the show in my humble opinion and needs little embellishment. Some beautiful blankets, soft hand knitted bonnets and cuddly fur are all it takes to capture this beautifully natural moment. If you’re looking for bright colours and novelty hats then perhaps I’m not the gal for you

We then moved onto a darker set up which I just adore (like the hat? I made it myself and I’m quite proud!). This set up really allows me to get some great details and close up shots and (if I’m VERY lucky) even a cheeky smile. They are so cwtched up that baby tends to go into such a deep sleep by this stage.

Baby shots done. Tick. Now for some family time. We wrapped baby up nice and warm and headed for a field close to their home for some shots of baby with her very proud big brothers and sisters.

Thank you so much to this wonderful family not only for inviting me back into their home to photograph baby number four but also for the MASSIVE cooked breakfast that they treated me to after the session! Got to love my customers! I am expecting fillet steak and chips when baby number five comes guys … just saying.
